A global flu pandemic has wiped out ninety nine percent of the worlds population. The UK is now lawless and the power is off. The survivors are left to fight over the remaining supplies of food and water. Nick Smith is a man with a tough past. He was a fugitive when the virus hit. He survived by living off the land and by staying constantly on the move. Up until then he had avoided all contact with other people. Following the pandemic he reluctantly saves a young boy from a vicious gang and his life is turned upside down. Nick and the young boy then cross paths with Beth and her two daughters at an abandoned motorway service station. Nick is then drawn further into a situation that he has been avoiding for years.
Beth and her daughters have been forced to leave the safety of their house. They are on their way to the coast and they are looking for something that no longer exists. A safe home in this harsh New World.

Seriously? Are editors that hard to come by or just a friend who knows a bit of proper English? Here we have very few commas, most of which are misplaced. Little to no structure to the writing.. Calling a female character two different first names in an early paragraph. Lack of capital letters. There is a (predictable) story, but the "hero" is unlikable and more than a little inscrutable. I've made it through chapter 7 and am giving up. Perhaps it's a tad unfair to base a review on just a fourth of a book, but I just don't care to continue.Product details

This has to be a quick review so I can hurry and start book two. I found this to be a very satisfying read! The characters feel like family and Im anxious to read the next one. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!
One of the few books I can recommend without reservation. The characters act like real people. Read it!!! You'll like it.
Great story. I thought the pacing was good, the characters well developed and the storyline well balanced. The theme is tragic, but not written too dark (which I liked). Made me root for the hero.
A wonderful adventure! Aside from the frequent use of the word “lead,”where they should have used “led,” it was very well written and gripped me such that had a hard time putting it down. The characters are well developed and I especially loved the man, Bill, who becomes a crucial part of the story.
This was a well-written book that left this reader and I'm sure others in complete awe of the survival needs of people after a pandemic that killed 90% of the world's population the main characters were united in a strength that gave me such hope about Humanity and people's will to survive. Friendships were formed and bonds were cemented intimately and powerfully as each of the survivors fought for their freedom, for their lives.
I'm now into book 3. Really enjoying the story & the story telling. So much that I've acquired the entire 6 available in series. One minor thing that I find a bit bizarre is that he goes from one character & area, to another, with just a new paragraph. This is the first book author I've read that does this. Can't say I like it at all, but still not enough to deduct even a single star. Nick Smith is a great protagonist! But, all the characters are well written. <3!
This a decently plotted book, with reasonably fleshed out characters. I will continue to read the series. Why three stars then? One comes off for being just another post apocalypse story. Nothing is original though it is like a lot of movies, which aren't original either but okay to watch when in the right mood. Without any big spoilers here's the plot.
We have a lawless countryside after civilization brakes down. Check. We have the loner, super skilled soldier/survivalist. Check. We have a beautiful but inwardly strong woman who needs rescuing. Check. We have psychopathic bad guys that the hero has to fight. Check. We have a sidekick. Check. And so on.
The other star comes off for the lousy copy editing and proof reading. Usually, I can ignore this if it isn't too obvious. This is.
